Anif Water Castle

Anif Water Castle is one of the defining views of the village. Situated in the middle of an artificially created pond, the castle appears almost fairy-tale-like, quiet yet closely connected to the townscape of Anif. Its exact origins are not clearly dated. Today, the castle is privately owned by the Moy family and is not open to the public. From the outside, however, the Water Castle can be experienced during a walk through Anif.

Even though it cannot be visited inside, it is one of the places that make Anif unmistakable. The view from the outside reveals a piece of local history, nestled in a well-maintained setting and surrounded by a special tranquillity.

The castle is accompanied by a landscape garden from the early Romantic period. The park is one of Austria’s most significant garden architectural sites and is protected as a monument. Normally, the garden is not open to the public. However, twice a year, part of this special place opens its doors: on Corpus Christi for the religious procession and on 8 December for the evening tower blowing by the Anif brass band.
