Anif and the Krampus figures during the Christmas season
When the days grow shorter and the sound of bells echoes through the village, a particularly impressive time begins in Anif. The Krampuses, as dark figures, are just as much a part of the winter traditions as the region’s Christmas markets. Thus, light and darkness come together.
Every year, up to 5,000 visitors attend the Anif Krampus Run. A spectacular event featuring carved masks, bells, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and gingerbread on the community square. Other Krampus runs take place throughout Salzburg and the surrounding area.
To keep the tradition of St Nicholas and Krampus alive in the families of the village, the Anif Krampuses visit numerous households in the municipality during the first week of December each year.
Maypole Festival in Spring
Colourfully decorated, visible from afar and every year a reason to celebrate: the Anif maypole is one of the most beautiful symbols of spring in the region. Its erection is traditionally celebrated with a large village festival.
Summer Kirtag
The Anif Kirtag is considered the region’s unofficial holiday. Traditionally held every year on the first weekend in August, families and friends gather to celebrate, dance, and enjoy the specialities of the local gastronomy. Guests experience a weekend full of customs, culinary delights, and village spirit.
Harvest Thanksgiving Festival in Autumn
In autumn, the village shows itself in a particularly traditional light. The three districts of Anif, Neu-Anif and Niederalm celebrate together at the Harvest Thanksgiving Festival. Traditional costumes, music, church service, procession and the artistically arranged harvest crown make the event a special moment in the annual cycle.
