Anif Krampus
The tension rises
Even though mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and gingerbread are romantically offered on the village square, the atmosphere reaches boiling point as darkness falls. For then they can be heard: the pre-Christmas tunes of Anif brass players. They mark the beginning of a magnificent spectacle.
House visits
To preserve the tradition of St. Nicholas and Krampus in the village’s families,
the Anif Krampus visit over 70 households in the municipality every year during the first week of December.
Run of the Niederalm Krampus
Since 1984, the Niederalm Krampus have been causing mischief in the municipality. When the lights go out at 18:30 on 4 December, the spectacle begins: dark figures with carved masks, accompanied by the ringing of bells, take over the Niederalm village square. Framed by performances and traditional elements, St. Nicholas also delights the crowd as the little ones receive gifts.
